In Formula one, team Mercedes’ driver Lewis Hamilton said the tire manufacturer Pirelli must act after dangerous tire failures at the British Grand Prix. At the Silverstone circuit, six drivers had to put up with dramatic tire blowouts. In fact Hamilton went on to say that it was the first time he felt it was dangerous.
Paul Hembery, Pirelli’s motorsport boss told an investigation was on to find the cause at the earliest before the next grand prix got underway. Enquired on whether the drivers would boycott the upcoming German Grand prix slated for next weekend; Felipe Massa of Ferrari refused to comment but added they could do this in the interest of their safety. But other drivers and team bosses played down this suggestion. Hamilton was very forthright in his comments and said safety was a prime concern. He even opined that it was a waste of time consulting the regulatory body, FIA on the issue.
